Turkey continues bombarding Rojava infrastructure

Roni Alasor / 18 January 2024 - Middle East Diplomatic - Since several months, Turkish warplanes and drones continues targeting energy and civilian infrastructure of Kurdish-held Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES / Rojava).

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reporting that “Drinking water was cut off from all the cities, villages, and towns of northern Hasaka as a result of targeting electrical stations that supply water well, complete power outag has hit the region.”

Human Rights Watch (HRW)also report that “Turkish raids in destroying vital infrastructure and cut off water and electricity for millions in northern Syria. Turkey continues to occupy lands in northern Syria, where its Syrian affiliated groups have violated civilian rights in those areas.”

Autonomous Administration AANES blasted Turkey for the “crimes against humanity” of targeting Rojava’s infrastructure and underlining that the livelihoods of civilians in the region are being exposed to danger : “Through its crimes, Turkey continues its aggressive approach in the face of this shameful international silence regarding everything committed by the turkish occupation state."

“Over the past two days, the turkish occupation has targeted key energy and electricity facilities, as well as grain storage warehouses and silos and fire fighting crews, using warplanes and drones. These aggressions have extended to the homes of civilians, their farms, and sources of their daily sustenance”.

The US-backed Kurdish lead Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) stated that Turkish strikes “constitute blatant and deliberate war crimes aimed at causing maximum harm to the lives of civilians, instilling fear, and inflicting suffering on their daily existence.”
